Category: Outdoor Photographer: Ken Rowland Photo: “Snake River View” Such a classic view of Grand Teton National Park. Certainly made famous by Ansel Adams, but also surely by the grandeur of simply standing in that spot and looking out over the Snake River and thinking about how many people carry the memory of standing there… → Read More
Category: Outdoor Photographer: Jeff Newton Photo: “From sunlight into the dark” I love silhouettes of birds in flight, as the photo becomes more about shape than the bird. I also like the context of them sailing across the sky as it transitions from day to night. The line of bird shapes conjures images of migrations… → Read More

Category: Outdoor Photographer: Kristian Bjornstad Photo: “Winter Wonderland 7” Living in the Northeast, I love this time of year. Bring on the snow! Nothing changes an ordinary scene into a magical wonderland like a fresh coat of snow. It changes the way things smell, sound, feel and look. Snow in the air can also do… → Read More
I’ve been a big fan of Don’s work for some time, and I had the pleasure of meeting him in person last summer. He’s just as generous with his knowledge in person as he is online. With the official start to winter here in the Northern Hemisphere, this seemed like the perfect photo to bring in the new year. Be sure to click the links above to see more of Don’s work. Best wishes to all for 2019! → Read More
Wow! What a moment! Whenever I see a great blue heron I can’t help thinking that I’m looking at a prehistoric creature, and they never fail to stop me in my tracks. A wonderful scene for making a super long exposure. The stability of the wharf stands out all the more against that fluid moving backdrop. The colors in the sky and the structures jutting from the water take it all to another level. Thanks for sharing with our group! → Read More
A perfect moment frozen in time! I love the symmetry of the wings, the colors, and even the water droplets. The background is nicely out of focus to make the powerful beat of the mallard’s wings stand out even more. Thanks for sharing with our group! → Read More

Raw beauty and strength captured in a single frame. Strength of the sea for sure, but also the strength of the lone pillar to withstand the unending beating it receives. But there is beauty here too. Beauty in the color, the form, the motion, and the reminder that we all must stand resolute against the forces that batter against us too. Thanks for sharing with our group! → Read More
Excellent use of a long exposure to convey the mood of this scene, and the B&W conversion pulls it all together. The framing and arrangement of the posts in the foreground relative to the structure in the background gives the eye plenty to feast on as it moves around the photo. While this is a photo of a truly beautiful flower, it was the quality of the light that held my eye. The subject is perfectly in focus, and the overall composition is well balanced. That warm light though keeps me coming back and evokes the feeling of standing in a sunny garden amongst those flowers. Thanks for sharing with our group! → Read More
What a great example of making the most of a cool opportunity! Be sure to check the caption of the photo back on Flickr for the backstory. Great use of wide angle lens, as the distortion of the earth works well in this context. Thanks for sharing with our group! → Read More

Star trails around the north star with an interesting foreground catches me every time. I love the way these photos show the passage of time, the rotation of the earth, and the patience of the photographer to set up, shoot, and edit. These are not for the casual snap shooter. Picture postcard perfect! The light and composition are spot on, and the sole figure walking down the shoreline is well placed to add both a visual point of interest, but also to bring the scene alive. Thanks for sharing with our group! → Read More
