This time, Brayden Mirjavadi emerged as a state champion. The Romeo senior won a 3-2 decision over Rockford junior Ryan Ahern to take the state Division 1 championship at 190 pounds at Ford Field on Saturday. Caleb Weiand of Dakota won a second state wrestling championship at Ford Field on Saturday. The senior scored a 5-3 overtime decision over Grandville sophomore Josh Vasquez to win the Division 1 title at 120 pounds. A Michigan State recruit, Weiand won at 112 last year.
