Triple-digit heat inland for a day, maybe two before a big drop heading into the weekend. King Tides could be interesting to monitor tonight → Read More
Late last week marine clouds surged into the Central Coast but weekend winds picked up and cleaned out the skies but also kept temps mild. Monday held true to that trend but conditions look to evolve by mid-week. Currently, there is a trough of low pressure to our east and a ridge west, the ridge moved over the area later Tuesday into Thursday. This will keep breezy conditions in play Tuesday… → Read More

Some occasional morning clouds but high pressure will rule for a bit of dry weather → Read More
The entire state of California has been in a drought for months but the severity continues to deepen. The key factors are no surprise: it was a terrible rain year, summer rarely delivers any significant rain and local reservoirs see planned draws primarily for agriculture (their designed use). At this point, there is not much that can be done. Conservation will not improve drought status or… → Read More

A huge storm developed in the Gulf of Alaska just before New Year's Eve, the very fast deepening low produced powerful winds. The 921-millibar storm (a measurement of pressure) was a record low atmospheric pressure for the North Pacific. Waves are created when that wind energy is translated into the water. Even though the storm center never tracked our way the waves radiated out from the center… → Read More
Dry conditions likely thru the weekend and next week → Read More
A weak cold front still looks to roll thru the Central Coast Thursday morning. The issue this front has is that it is not bringing much moisture with it and it'll run into Central Coast air influenced by offshore winds. This will dramatically impact the ability of the front to produce much rain. I think those that see rain likely stay under .10" and much of the area SLO and south likely don't… → Read More
Offshore winds will be strong into Tuesday as well → Read More
There is a upper level feature moving for the area today, the pressure change will drive from wind. The winds are a local concern across Santa Barbara county where a wind advisory is in place into early Tuesday. N-NE winds will be locally strong. This general pattern of high pressure will drive night and morning offshore winds a few times this week. This will dry out the air significantly which… → Read More
We'll see some occasionally gusty winds and some potential for interior valley frost → Read More
Well, we knew it wasn't going to be a big storm and it was not. That said some showers is not a bad thing in an area badly needing rain, generally the rains were light under .25" but some locations in the hills above the SLO county north coast did rather well picking up more than .50" (but that was the exception rather than the rule). Partly cloudy skies ruled after the front pulled out. Some… → Read More
More for some than others, the SLO north coast has the best chance of moderate rain totals → Read More
As expected Friday saw the arrival of cold air and high winds and ultimately some showers are also possible from a vigorous low pressure system inside a larger upper level trough. Winds Friday afternoon were high enough for advisories (15-25 with gusts to 40mph) and that wind energy is in the water creating high surf where there is also an advisory into Monday for 12-16ft break. Clearly daytime… → Read More
