The second phase of construction for Glacier National Park's Sperry Chalet starts this summer. The chalet's dormitory was burned in the Sprague Fire in 2017. The Whitefish Lake Watershed Project conserves more than 13,000 acres of forest, endangered species habitats and wetlands near Whitefish. After unstable soil made a Flathead school stop construction on a $15. 8 million project, crews are now finally breaking ground. Construction workers are working on stone columns for the foundation of Somers Middle School’s addition. The work just started in April. A new advocacy group is criticizing the way Montana is trying to keep aquatic mussels out of the state’s waters. Watershed Protection Advocates gave Montana a C- rating for watercraft inspection station management. On Tuesday Montana Department of Transportation officials said water caused trouble along Old Reserve Drive in Kalispell. Kalispell MDT maintenance chief Justun Juelfs said low-lying roadways are the problem areas for water issues.
